Chamber unveils 2022-23 Metro Advocacy Agenda

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Wednesday, 8/24/22) — The Greater Memphis Chamber today released the Metro Advocacy Agenda, its list of local policy priorities for 2022-2023.

Statement from Bobby White, chief public policy officer of the Greater Memphis Chamber: “The Greater Memphis Chamber’s Metro Advocacy Agenda represents the voice of business on policy priorities right here in our backyard. I’m proud of how much thought and work our stakeholders put into addressing our local challenges, which range from improving operations at the Shelby County clerk’s office to strengthening relationships between businesses and schools to create new pathways to prosperity for our opportunity youth.”

Highlights: Greater Memphis Chamber Metro Advocacy Agenda Priorities

  • Address unprecedented disruption in operations in the Shelby County clerk’s office.
  • Prioritize sites for economic development.
  • Increase business services outreach and operational transparency for Workforce Mid-South.
  • Create on-ramps for businesses to engage ex-offenders for employment opportunities.
  • Improve MLGW engagement with and support for new and existing businesses.
  • Standardize code enforcement, clean-up, and beautification along major corridors and around critical landmarks.
  • Create transportation planning functionality within local government.
  • Institute district-specific onboarding for elected officials.
  • Increase job training opportunities for opportunity youth (ages 16-24) through employer-high school partnerships.
  • Galvanize support for America’s River Crossing, a new bridge over the Mississippi River at Memphis.
